Step Brothers – Con te Partiro as Sung by Andrea Bocelli (Not Will Ferrell)

Fri, Dec 12, 2008 (Celebrities, Movies, Video)

So I watched Step Brothers the other night, overall, a very meh movie. Some parts are pretty damn funny “classic” Ferrell, but most of the movie is ultra-dry line delivery that seems to have become Ferrell’s norm recently (unfortunately) — the kind of lines where you can’t tell if you are watching something funny, or a drama.

I think it’s the crazy/flamboyant Ferrell of the early SNL years that put him in the hearts of so many people as “super-funny”, and I just haven’t seen that in his last few movies except for a few moments in each movie.

This is the equivalent of sticking Chris Farley in a movie delivering straight-faced/dead-pan lines instead of over the top physical comedy and retarded voices that made me piss my pants 10 years ago and still does now.

ANYWAY, there is a song Ferrell sings at the end of Step Brothers with John C. Riley (who keeps saying “Boats & Hoes” through the song) that is one of those “that is awesome, what’s that called?!” songs you go lookup right after the movie is done.

Well I did that, and found it… the original is called Con te Partiro and below is sung beautifully by Andrea Bocelli

it turns out that what Ferrell sung was literally a Spanish version of that song called Por ti volaré — and when I searched for that, I just found a bunch of Step Brother’s references, which made me think that it was a customization of the classic just for the movie? I’m really not sure, but that would be impressive.

I’d suggest watching the YouTube video, the song is really something else.

That song IS awesome, and so is Andrea Bocelli. He sings so efortlessly and his voice is so pure, like he’s channeling God. But I think my MOST favorite is The Prayer, by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion (NOT that I’m giving HER any props).

Wanted to comment that the Spanish version sung by Will Ferrel is not a customization. Andrea Bocelli also has a version.

Look it up on iTunes. I had purchased it some time ago.
