Signs are designed and written to communicate things clearly and quickly.
(Though sometimes signs don’t always successfully convey quite what we mean.)
In fact, sometimes, we don’t quite know WHAT the hell we mean, or how to say it. But, as I discovered - many times over - on my visit to small-town Idaho, nothin’s a big deal…we print and post the sign anyway.
Sometimes, in Idaho, not only the things we say but the things we DO don’t quite make sense. But…maybe it’s just me who doesn’t see the correlation here.
…But at least we’re positive about it.
I think my favorite part about communication in small-town Idaho though, is completely missing the boat on the whole “CLEARLY” and “QUICKLY” part of using signage.
Then again, it looks like you’ve got the time to figure out how to cross this roaringly busy street before you actually have to attempt it. Don’t forget to signal the driver on your left, look both ways as you approach the center of the road, then signal the driver on your right.
…Whenever one shows up.
